Icoustic Skill

Icoustic is not an AI product. You bring your own assistants (Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT Desktop, and others). The Icoustic skill is a small Agent Skills package you give them so they understand how the app works — libraries, devices on the same network, playback, playlists, metadata — and, when MCP is connected on your Mac, how to query your library and stage changes safely for you to approve.

It is not a cloud service. The skill is a set of markdown files. Your AI loads them locally; Icoustic still does not upload your catalog and does not run a model of its own.

What it covers

  • Product tutoring first: how to add folders, get a second device to show up, pick a destination, use Live Queue, playlists, ratings, tags, privacy
  • MCP guidance when tools are available: Ask only vs Suggest changes, propose → review in MCP Actions, tool cheatsheet
  • Clear “don’t invent” rules (no cloud sync account, no synchronized playback across devices, files as truth)

Without MCP, the skill is a full app tutor for your AI. With AI Assistants enabled in Icoustic (Settings → AI Assistants on an unlocked Mac), your connected client can also use live library tools instead of guessing. MCP needs Icoustic unlocked — Lifetime, Monthly (including the 7-day trial), or a pre-1.4 paid download.

How to use it

Cursor

  1. Download icoustic.zip.
  2. Unpack into ~/.cursor/skills/ so you get ~/.cursor/skills/icoustic/SKILL.md and references/.
  3. Start a chat and ask about Icoustic or your library. If MCP is connected, ask something like “Using Icoustic, how many tracks are in my library?”

Claude

  1. Download the zip or the `SKILL.md` file.
  2. Add it as a skill, or attach the folder / file to the project.
  3. Ask product or library questions as usual.

ChatGPT Desktop

  1. Open `SKILL.md` (or unpack the zip and open that file).
  2. Paste it into custom instructions or project files. Skills support varies by client.
  3. For live library tools, use ChatGPT Desktop with Icoustic MCP installed — not ChatGPT web connectors.

After installing

  • Ask product questions anytime — e.g. “How do I get my iPhone to show up on my Mac?” or “What’s Live Queue?”
  • For live library access: open Settings → AI Assistants, turn on Allow AI assistants to use my library, and use the Connect section to wire your client — see MCP.
  • Prefer Capability → Ask only until you want changes; Suggest changes proposals land in MCP Actions for you to Approve.
  • Example MCP asks: library stats, missing years or genres, duplicate candidates, “build a running mix from my 4-star tracks.”
